Areas of Practice

Family Law with particular expertise in difficult/sensitive public and private law matters, children with special needs, domestic violence, sexual abuse and civil partnerships.

Experienced in acting for guardians and also the direct representation of children who have a conflict of interest with their guardian.

Emily has a solid and varied practice in matrimonial finance, including property and finance disputes within civil partnerships and TLATA claims.

Emily has a long standing history of commitment to and understanding of gay issues coupled with in-depth training in this new area of family law.

Mental Health Review Tribunal work with experience in many hospitals including high security with particular interest in women patients and those who have suffered sexual abuse.

Though now no longer generally available for criminal defence and police actions her substantial experience in those fields has led to particular strength in cross-examination.

Publications Numerous dictionaries; Emily was a lexicographer before call to the Bar; Child Sexual Abuse: Feminist Perspectives (Macmillan 1989).

Pro Bono/Community Work Has included teaching advocacy at the Inner Temple; representation of claimants to the CICA, Inquests, Matrimonial Finance.
